Summer Classes

Music Reading

begins June 24th, for 2 weeks

(Tuesday & Thursday mornings, 4 one-hour classes)

Learn the basics of note and rhythm reading.  Lots of in-class practice singing  and playing written music. Learn to play basic music on an instrument.  You will need to have an instrument for in-class work  Recorder, band instrument (C instruments only), guitar, or violin are good choices. One or two pianos will be available for in-class work.  Some homework. $40

Music Theory & Composition

begins July 8th, for 4 weeks

(Tuesday & Thursday mornings, 8 one-hour+ classes)

Learn scales, build chords, play and write chord progressions, read chord sheets, transpose, and learn basic song forms for contemporary music styles.  You will need to choose an instrument for homework and in-class work.  An accompaniment type instrument is recommended such as piano or guitar.  Moderate homework. $80

Beginning Group Guitar

begins June 24th, for 6 weeks (Tuesday 6:15 pm, six 90 minute classes)

This class assumes that you know nothing about playing guitar.  We’ll start at the very beginning.  Learn to tune your instrument, play chords, strumming and picking patterns with pick and fingers, and how to use a capo.  Learn songs every week.  You will need a guitar and pick.  A tuner is recommended.  Practice at home is required.  Sign up at Bullfrog Music.  $75

Beginning Jamming

             begins August (tentatively on Tuesday)

Put all of your knowledge of basic theory to practical use then use your ear to learn to follow other musicians with no music or lead sheets.  Join Jon Franke and me in this fun class.  Learn to be the leader and the follower and the etiquette of joining a jam.  Learn the basics of “taking a break”.  We’ll use folk, old-time and country music.  You must have basic skills on your instrument.  Guitar, mandolin, banjo, piano, accordian and violin/fiddle are possible instruments.  Talk to Patti if you’d like to use another instrument to see if it would work in this setting.  A great follow up to the beginning guitar class.

Tuition for a class due on or before the first day of the class for the entire series.  I do not do make-ups for classes you miss.

The beginning guitar class will be at Bullfrog Music and the other classes are TBD in Corvallis.

You do not need to be one of my private students to take my classes.

Costs:

Tentatively, it will cost:

$40 for the music reading class

$80 for the music theory & composition class

$75 for the beginning guitar class

Additional fee for materials will be $12 or less.

The music reading and music theory classes may have lower tuition if we have more students than expected.
